Shaping the Future: Sport, Health and Education

Join international keynote speakers, leading academics, educators, practitioners and students in Hong Kong for a major regional conference on the future of sport, health and education in Asia.

Across three strands: 1) Health, Physical Activity and Societal Impact, 2) Excellence in Sport, Physical Education and Performance and 3) Professional Practice, the programme will feature keynote lectures, invited sessions, oral and poster presentations and professional discussion. The conference is designed to connect research with policy and practice, while creating space for meaningful exchange between delegates, universities, schools, professional bodies and community partners.

1) Health, Physical Activity and Societal Impact

This strand examines how physical activity, sport and education contribute to physical and mental health, wellbeing and inclusion across different populations and settings. It draws on WHO frameworks and regional policy discussions, linking sport and physical education to health systems, sustainability and equity. Sessions will consider how universities, schools and community partners can help shape more active societies and inform policy and practice across Asia.

2) Excellence in Sport, Physical Education and Performance

This strand considers how sport and physical education can develop physical literacy, support excellence and sustain engagement across the continuum from school-based learning to elite performance. It brings education and sport into closer relation, examining how pedagogy, coaching and technology may be used to support motivation, resilience and achievement. Sessions within this strand will bring together PE teachers, sport scientists, coaches and performance staff to discuss applied, evidence-informed approaches to learning, development and performance.

3) Professional Practice

This strand provides an academic forum in which to consider the development of professional practice in sport and exercise science across Asia. While countries such as Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States have established systems of accreditation and professional recognition, no comparable framework yet exists across Asia. The strand is intended to bring together deans, heads of department, professional bodies and academic leaders across the Asia region, to discuss commonality of practice, quality assurance, standards and graduate preparation, and to consider how a more coherent regional approach might be developed over time.

With its Hong Kong setting, international participation and strong Asian focus, the conference aims to create a lively forum for dialogue, collaboration and new partnerships across the region.
